Studying Korean in Korea from Uzbekistan
Several institutes have rules written specifically for Uzbekistan, most of them about the bank balance. Get that right first.
What's different for Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is in the Apostille Convention (since 2012), so your diploma and transcript are apostilled.
Several institutes want the balance from a Korean bank's branch in Uzbekistan, held for at least 3 months: Yonsei (USD 10,000), SNU and Korea University (KRW 10 million), Ewha (KRW 10 million for 3 months).
For a university that isn't certified, the institute applies for a visa issuance certificate (CCVI) in Korea, then you collect the visa at the embassy in Tashkent. At certified universities you usually apply at the embassy directly.
Uzbekistan is on the 21-country list: expect parents' employment, income and family documents.
Uzbekistan is on the TB list.
Yonsei and Korea University ask Uzbek students to pay 4 terms (a year) up front.
How institutes treat Uzbekistan
| Institute | For Uzbek applicants |
|---|---|
| Yonsei | Korean bank in Uzbekistan, 3 months; Group A: 4 terms up front |
| Korea University | Korean bank in Uzbekistan, KRW 10M for 3 months; 4 terms |
| SNU | Korean financial institution in Uzbekistan, more than 3 months |
| Ewha | KRW 10M held 3+ months; Korean sponsor |
| Sogang | Korean guarantor required |
| SKKU | Parents' documents (designated country) |
| Kyung Hee | ID copies (designated country), plus family and income papers |
| Chungnam | Parents' documents; TB certificate; KRW 8M balance |
| Kyungpook | No Uzbekistan-specific rule found on English pages |
What this really means
If your family's savings aren't already in a Korean bank's branch in Uzbekistan, open the account now: the 3-month clock decides your earliest start at several Seoul institutes. Institutes outside Seoul, such as Chungnam and Kyungpook, are often easier on both money and paperwork.
