What you need to apply

Money

Balance of at least KRW 10,000,000 for two terms, issued within 30 days before the visa application.

Guarantor

Applicants from countries without a visa-waiver agreement with Korea must add a notarized guarantee letter from a Korean citizen employed in Korea, with the guarantor's ID and employment documents, plus parents' income documents. ELC doesn't list the countries; it points to 0404.go.kr.

Uzbekistan

Balance of over KRW 10,000,000 held for at least 3 months, on a letter from a local branch of a Korean financial institution; consular confirmation; a Korean sponsor; and proof of what you did if more than a year has passed since graduation.

Terms

D-4 students register and pay for two terms (about KRW 3.7 million up front).

Housing

ELC has its own dorm for students registered that term, up to two terms, first come first served. Prices change every term and appear in each term's notice.

Route to a degree

Two international Ewha freshmen who completed level 6 and at least three ELC terms get partial tuition support. Ewha's undergraduate programs are for women only; ELC's eligibility rules don't mention gender. Thinking about a degree? See our Ewha Womans University admission guide.

Refunds

Full refund before the course begins (except the application fee), then pro-rated. No specific visa-refusal rule was found.

Our view

What this really means

A well-run program with unusual two-teacher classes, but the Korean-guarantor rule is a real barrier for applicants from Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia and Nigeria, which have no visa-waiver agreement with Korea. Check before you apply.
