Division of Global Biosciences & Business
A new division for international students preparing for careers in future industries.
What this really means
The Songdo open major is one of the best-funded options for international students we've seen this year. But there's no dormitory at Songdo, so budget for private housing. HUFS says curriculum and major-selection details will be announced separately; read them before you commit.

Language: optional, but it changes your interview
Korean track (most majors)
TOPIK 3, optional
Or level 3 at HUFS or another IEQAS university's Korean center, or King Sejong Institute Intermediate 1.
English track: International Studies
IELTS 5.5, optional
Or TOEFL iBT 3.5 (59 on the old scale). Native speakers and graduates of English-speaking countries don't need a score.
What this really means
You can apply with no score, but then you must interview, and language counts for 30 of 100 points (documents 30, interview 40). If your two majors are in different language tracks, send proof for both, or you may be interviewed in Korean for your second choice. Your personal statement must be in Korean for Korean-track majors.
Intensive Korean after admission
Students who need to improve their Korean take up to a year of intensive Korean courses, 300 hours a semester, which count as liberal arts credits. You're exempt with TOPIK 4 or higher, in International Studies, or as a transfer student. International Studies students still need TOPIK 3 to graduate.
Who can apply?
Nationality
You and both parents non-Korean, with foreign nationality from before you entered high school. If a parent with custody has remarried a Korean citizen, you can't apply, even without adoption.
Education
Completed primary and secondary school. The GED, equivalency exams, homeschooling, cyber learning and language institutes don't count. Transfers into year 2 or 3 are possible.

Is HUFS a good fit for you?
A strong fit for languages, international studies, business and social sciences, or an undecided student who wants the Songdo open major.
Still possible for March 2027: Regular Decision runs to Nov 20, and no score is required.
Think twice if you need on-campus housing at Songdo, or you'd rather not interview.
